Unfortunately, where the game falls a bit short is its plot. The fact that you customize your character so much at the beginning of each run also makes you feel like the RNG isn’t as severe as it is in other rogue-lites. Of course, your class will determine which enemies will give you the most trouble, but the game manages to achieve an excellent sweet spot between challenge and satisfying combat. Each playthrough of the game can take you through a myriad of locations, thirteen in total, to be precise.Įach location comes with a unique selection of monsters and creatures to defeat. If you thought that the class variety was everything Rogue Fable III had going for it, wait until you hear about its impressively eclectic dungeons. Along with the ten classes, players must also choose from the eight different races to create their character, each with a distinct set of strengths and weaknesses. Unlike Rogue Legacy, where classes determined only minor attributes of your character, they change everything about the way your character plays here. The sheer amount of possibilities you get when combining different classes and races is astounding, and that’s without mentioning the more than sixty unique abilities that each class can develop.Ĭlasses are the star of the show in Rogue Fable III. I'd like to recommend it as suitable for all the family, but just remember that it does contain some rather immature and uninspired dialogue.What Rogue Fable III does differently is give the players the necessary tools to make each playthrough feel like a wholly new experience. Experienced players may find it to be a bit too easy, but it's certainly entertaining enough to provide light relief between tougher games and offers a reasonable challenge to players new to the genre. On the other hand, I still enjoyed the adventuring components, but then, I do like this style of graphic adventure. The dialogue and the ending were, for me, disappointing, as was the lack of any real depth to the story.
Overall, I thought that Fable had a lot of potential that was not quite fulfilled.
Gordon Aplin echos up my feelings about the game in his review at the Quandary: " The plot is typical fantasy mumbo-jumbo: you control Quickthorpe, who is tasked with finding the four fabled jewels to restore his land to former peace. Fable is a decent point-and-click adventure from Telstar that unfortunately got very little notice due to lack of fanfare, limited distribution, and the general slump in adventure game genre.
